e invite
you
and your students to join the growing number of schools that are participating
in the Siesta Town Cultural Program . A service that provides an excellent
introduction to our Latin American neighbors in a fun and entertaining manner.
Our goal is for each student to realize the importance in today's society
of being diverse, not only in language, but in culture as well. We are
proud of our heritage and enjoy sharing the traditional aspects of it
with others. We hope to provide students with an educational insight into
our increasingly important neighbor, Mexico. Your program will be coordinated
by owner Michel Zajur, who has a long history of involvement with numerous
community activities
related to the promotion of cultural diversity. He has served on the Foreign
Language Committee of the Chesterfield County School Board, the Richmond
International Children's Festival advisory board and represented the Hispanic
population at the Virginia Department of Agriculture's Diversity Conference.
Described as "more than a restaurateur" by The Greater Metro
Richmond Area Restaurant Guide, Michel's love of his native Mexican culture
is evident in every performance. "I especially love working with
the younger children because they pick up the language so much easier,"
says Michel, describing his attentive audiences.
Our program for elementary students is designed so each child can be
exposed to another culture in a fun positive way. During their visit to
our restaurant, students will learn about and sample Mexican cooking that
dates back to the Aztecs! They will experience a real "Mexican Fiesta"
with traditions, music, dancing and more! La Siesta's own costumed character,
"Pepe," will amuse the children and provide his own contribution
to a Spanish lesson that entertains while teaching basic vocabulary.
For
their participation, each child will be rewarded with a gift certificate
to use when they return to La Siesta!
We offer the perfect field trip experience or an on-site assembly program
geared toward Spanish language students. Authentic ethnic dance artists
share intriguing stories about the culture, lifestyle, and traditions
of their home countries. They also offer information about the politics
and economy today. A chief characteristic of the Latino culture is an
emphasis on family, friendship, and community. Through their work as artistic
diplomats, the dancers promote respect and cross-cultural communication
in the United States. The dance artists perform traditional folk dances
from different regions of Mexico or Latin America. We will tailor our
program to suit your needs!
